Art for Atta'a
Another invitation for the group show - Art with a Heart 2012. I was unable to attend the opening ceremony on Sunday but made the effort and went on Monday for an hour. What an amazing collection, 352 pieces of original artwork, in a variety of mediums, Water colour, oil, pastels, charcoal, silk painting, plaster, textiles, wood, acrylics, digital art and photography, to name just a few.
The collection was put together, from all walks of life, some of the artists were professional, some not, many were local artists and others were expatriates. To see such a diverse collection of art in one space was to me very moving. The interpretations from each individual and the subject matter they chose to exhibit, was obviously close to their hearts.
There was vibrancy and muted tones all around. Insights into the daily lives of the artists, sketches of local beduin life through to oils of the Sultan. Abstract art right through to a small oil or watercolour of a small pot.

The photography was impressive too, very cultural in subject matter, from life in the home through to abstracts and cultural insights into Omani pastimes. Every piece was beautifully framed and shown to its best advantage in the wonderful gallery at Bait al Zubair. The house that became a museum. Each piece of work is for sale, half the proceeds going to the charity Dar Al Atta'a, the other half to the artist.
