My First post

I will start by calmly putting down on the screen, this first post, on my third attempt at creating a blog,  having found this really difficult, how I prefer the paper and pen approach to recording what I find, ideas, learning etc.  I hope that I will be able to record my progress, show the highs and the lows of which I am sure there will be many.  Through this blog, and by the end of the course hopefully there will be a distinct improvement in my photography and camera skills.
The Art of Photography is my first attempt at home study, made even more difficult by the fact that I am living in Oman at present, where temperatures soar into the low 50's in the summer, making outdoor photography something of a challenge.  There are cultural challenges too, Ramadan and not being able to photograph female faces, especially with me being British and female, just three obstacles of many.  On the plus side, Oman is a wonderful country, culturally and geographically and being lucky enough to be here will give me the opportunity to share Oman through the lens of my camera.  


I was the proud owner of a Canon 4000d up until recently and now have a Nikon d7000, which is an upgrade for me.  It is a much heavier camera to use and far more complicated, I am still learning its basics, be warned.....there will be errors along the way.
My kit at the moment consists of:

• Nikon D7000
• Standard 18-105
• AF-S Nikkor 55-300

There has been a huge delay in the start of my learning, but thanks to talking to OCA and the understanding of support there, I have been asked to try and complete three assignments before mid November.  This will be a huge task for me, my biggest challenge now is this blog and using it to full effect, but three attempts later I have achieved something.  In time it will develop into work I am proud of.....
